Arguably the most famous of the 10 Beaujolais crus, Moulin-à-Vent is also known for producing the most concentrated and muscular wines in Beaujolais. Located in the very north of the region, the soils here are comprised of pink granite and are responsible for the robust nature of the Gamay grape grown in this area. This special, pink granite is marbled with veins of manganese and is tough on the grapevines affecting their vigor and growth - just how they like it! The result is smaller, more concentrated grapes with deeper flavors and firm tannins that allow the red wines of Moulin-à-Vent to age beautifully for more than 10 years. Our “Cuvée Terre de Lumière” is harvested by hand from 65 year old vines and ages for 8 months in concrete vats (60%) and in oak casks (40%). It is rich and dark with ripe cherry and savory plum flavors knit together in a tight structure that really lets loose if you decant it about an hour before drinking. Cru Beaujolais as good as this exhibits all the finesse and style of a top-notch Burgundy but for a smidgen of the cost. Not sure you can find a better red to make your favorite winter stews and meats even better. Special stuff!
