Domaine de l'Amauve "Reserve" Séguret 2017 France

This Séguret Reserve is made only in the best years and from the top vineyard parcels on the l'Amauve estate. The assemblage is 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah but here's the cool part of how things go down in the cellar. A portion of the blend spends time in new barrels and then gets transferred to 2 and 3-year old barrels while the other part remains in stainless steel tanks on the lees to maintain freshness. After about 18 months from harvest, the two batches are blended together prior to bottling. The result is a dense flavor profile of blackberry and dark cherry followed by sweet spice and ripe tannins. This wine takes me to the small square in Gigondas where I've had so many fine memories sharing food and wine with good friends. Séguret is barely 10 minutes up the road and this Reserve has all the makings and nuances of a solidly made Gigondas but for a lot less money. Dive in my friends for a very satisfying red wine experience you soon won't forget!
