Domaine FL Savennières Roche aux Moines Chenin Blanc 2014 France

As an importer, you know you’ve entered rarified air when your latest producer is one of only eight properties who own and produce Chenin Blanc from the extraordinary La Roche aux Moines growing region in the Loire Valley. Roche aux Moines is a sub-plot of the larger Savennières appellation southwest of Angers and it is my humble opinion that from this coveted region comes the finest expression of Chenin Blanc in the world. At Domaine FL strict methods of organic farming are the rule. They hand-harvest the grapes over multiple passes and at low yields to ensure concentration. This is dry, full-bodied Chenin Blanc rich with succulent flavors of peach and stone fruit and a classy mineral complexity. The acids are quenching, the balance perfect and the flavors delicious. Chenin Blanc is one of the few white wines on the planet that will age for decades and I just hope I'm around long enough to experience all the goods this wine will deliver in 20 years. By committing to the kinds of vineyard and wine making practices employed in Savennières, Roche aux Moines producers are crafting wines like one would a ''grand cru." The locals here have a saying, "Savennières is not Chenin Blanc, it is just made from Chenin Blanc. Welcome to the Holy Grail of Chenin Blanc where world-class quality is not just an aspiration, it’s a way of life.
