Château du Chatelard Morgon “Cuvée Les Roches” 2015 Beaujolais France

Born from the granite and schist soils that surround the small village of Villié-Morgon comes Cuvée Les Roches - a beautifully structured wine, rich and juicy, with flavors of pure red fruit, dark plum, herbs and minerals. Morgon is one of 10 crus in Beaujolais and produces fuller-bodied, complex wines that get better and more interesting with age. Those "in the know" understand that Cru Beaujolais denotes quality and style. This is the source for more robust, beautifully made wines from this southern Burgundy region. And not only do they deliver world-class flavor, they are also incredibly affordable. For a quality introduction to what Morgon has to offer, pop the cork on Cuvée Les Roches. The grapes for Les Roches are picked by hand and partially de-stemmed before fermentation in concrete vats. After 15 days, the wine is split between concrete vats (40%) and French oak casks (60%) to age and mature before the two cuvées are blended and bottled. This is some nicely polished juice showing great winemaking and delicious fruit flavors that become even more pronounced as the wine opens up. I'll put Les Roches up against any Burgundy at 3 times the cost - it's that good. Superb!
