Baron de Montfaucon Châteauneuf du Pape 2018 France

From a single hectare of 80-year-old vines in the lieu-dit of les Escondudes, this 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape from Château du Montfaucon is 92% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre. It is matured in small barriques but so well integrated it is not oaky at all revealing scents of black cherries and plums on a backdrop of garrigue and dark chocolate. What a lovely CdP all vibrant and mouthwatering at the start and becoming more and more creamy and plush as the wine opens up. After a while more intense flavors of dark fig, blackberry and boysenberry compote come streaming through, flanked by singed apple wood, subtle hints of licorice and spice. Not only is this a great bottle of wine but it's a stellar bargain too! Have you priced Châteauneuf du Pape lately? OMG! A hundred bucks a bottle these days is not uncommon. You can always count on Montfaucon when it comes to world-class quality and unmatched value.
